After the disappointing cancellation of Construction Safety Day 2020 due to the pandemic, Keynote Anna Meiners of the Cascade Center was able to open the 13th Annual CSD event with a timely message of Coping and Resilience.
Throughout the day, nearly 300 attendees joined sessions online on relevant topics such as Mindfulness by Elyssa Dixon, Infectious Disease Control presented by Shonnessy Gilmore, and Diversity and Inclusion on the Jobsite by Safety Justice League Super Hero Abby Ferri. The event also included some other traditional topics such as Fall Protection, Root Cause Analysis, and Foundations of Leadership. Although we’re looking forward to when it is safe to gather again in person, attendees of the virtual event do have the benefit this year of reviewing most sessions on demand through the month of April.
A highlight of CSD every year is the scholarship awarded to someone in pursuit of a career in workplace safety & health. This year Gustavo Uriostegui received the award. He is a student at Central Washington University working on his Bachelor’s in Risk, Insurance, and Safety Management. Congratulations Gustavo!
Thank you to the CSD Sponsors who’s contributions assist in providing the scholarship each year and offset overhead costs which allows reasonable rates for attendees. Platinum Sponsors: LiUNA! and Korsmo Construction. Gold Sponsors: Atkinson Construction, Pacific Pile & Marine, and Papé Material Handling. Silver Sponsors: Hermanson, Merit Construction, and Swinerton. Bronze Sponsors: ASSP – Puget Sound Chapter, Insta-pipe, and Owada Law.
We are looking forward to a full schedule of live events next year. We hope you will join us March 30, 2022 when we return to the Showplex Center at the Washington State Fairgrounds. CSD 2022 will have more great sessions, a packed exhibit hall full of safety products, demonstrations, Fischer Scones of course- and friendly, familiar faces once again!
