2018 Construction Safety Day Highlights

Eric’s captivating message

Industry interest continues to grow as Construction Safety Day hosted nearly 300 people this year on May 11 at the Washington Sate Fair. The event opened with Keynote Speaker Eric Giguere, an average guy who had an attitude toward safety of “accidents happen, but not to me” until the one that nearly took his life. Now Eric travels the country sharing his story to make sure the attitude he had toward safety doesn’t become yours. His message that “this can happen to you” was heard as the audience listened intently.

Attendees received the latest information on rules, guidelines and tips of the trades all working toward the mission of workplace safety & health, and injury prevention. Rhett Carpenter, of Safety, Health and Environmental Services, and Honeywell’s Braden Bicknell pinched hit for us and presented an outstanding workshop on Silica with very short notice when another presenter was unable to attend. We were grateful to have experts on hand and they knocked it out of the park! Some of the other highlights included workshops on Respiratory Protection, Eyewash and Hearing Conservation, Workplace Violence, Supervising for Safety, Suicide Awareness and Prevention and Predictable People & Preventable Pain.

CSD Door Prizes
Awesome Door Prizes!

Attendees always look forward to the great door prizes donated by many of the exhibitors and the Governor’s Industrial Safety & Health Board. This year did not disappoint as winners received items such as gift cards to National Safety, Whistle Workwear, Home Depot, Safeway and tickets to see the Mariners! Other great prizes included an air compressor, a generator, a drone, safety apparel and more. Thank you to all who contributed to the prizes for this event.

Once again a special THANK YOU goes out to the event sponsors Pape Material Handling, Washington 811, Korsmo Construction, Frontier Door and Cabinet, Sound Predictions and we can’t forget AGC of Washington for providing the Fisher Fair Scones. Your partnership in workplace safety is appreciated!
