2023 Construction Safety Scholarship Winners

Congratulations Cynthia Gross and Surafel Muche – The winners of the 2023 Construction Safety Scholarship! Every year the Governor’s Industrial Safety & Health Advisory Board’s CSD Planning Committee provides a $1,250 scholarship to assist eligible students in furthering their education occupational safety and health and/or general construction safety.

Cynthia Gross“Having worked in the safety industry for a period of time, this scholarship will help to enhance my career trajectory through the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Risk, Insurance, and Safety Management at CWU.  I enjoy analyzing and assessing situations and am good at recognizing risks.  I care about personal injury and am concerned about unnecessary property losses.  I look forward to a long and rewarding career as a risk and safety professional. ” -Cynthia Gross

Surafel Muche“Scholarships have a significant impact on my educational and professional development. Firstly, financial assistance can help me cover the cost of tuition, books, and living expenses, which can alleviate the burden of debt and allow me to focus on my studies. It allows me to focus on school because I don’t have to worry about balancing work and school. It also can help me lead to improved academic performance, increased opportunities for research, internships, study abroad programs, and a more enriched learning experience.

Secondly, receiving this scholarship can offer recognition for my achievements and provide access to a network of like-minded individuals and mentors. The scholarship offers guidance and support in pursuing my career goals and increases the likelihood of securing future opportunities such as internships, fellowships, and employment.
