2019 Construction Safety Day Highlights

This year’s 12th annual Construction Safety Day saw record numbers in Puyallup.  Mandi Kime kicked off our event by providing some valuable tips and resources on how to achieve work life balance in an ever changing and demanding industry.  She shared with us some small steps to immediately start incorporating to create a work life balance – she reminded us if you don’t, no one else will do it for you.  All great reminders for an industry that is seeing an alarming increase in suicide rates.  If you find yourself needing help, or know someone who needs help, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1.800.273.8255.

New this year was our sold out pre-event SILICA Competent Person presented by John Carlson with Integrity Safety on Tuesday March 26th.  This half-day pre conference workshop provided initial training for a person to act as a Silica Competent Person.  The next day we had a strong line up of speakers this year that included a panel discussing Solutions to Opioids in the Workplace, Rick Gleason on Common Pitfalls in Sampling, Calvin Beyer discussing Why Suicide Prevention is the Next Frontier in Construction Safety and MANY others that had packed full classrooms!

Our exhibit hall also saw record numbers this year!  There were quite a few returning exhibitors and some new ones that included Ballard Industrial, Milwaukee Tools, Illumagear and Whistles for Life.  The exhibit hall was full of safety products, demonstrations and familiar faces in the industry!

Whether you were local or traveled in for the event, we made sure to provide a local flair with some tasty treats.  In the morning AGC of Washington provided a Puyallup Fair staple, Fischer Scones, and Choice Catering provided an outstanding BBQ lunch that you could smell all around the fairgrounds as they were barbecuing!  Our lunch raffle had an abundance of donated items from our exhibitors and big ticket items purchased by the Board!  Thank you to all that helped contribute to make this lunch fun, tasty and full of surprises.

We could not have pulled off such a successful event without the help of our sponsors.  A special THANK YOU to our Platinum Sponsors:  AGC of Washington, Ballard Industrial, Integrity Safety, NW Barricade, NWLTT, Milwaukee Tools, Pape Material Handling.  Gold Sponsors:  MacDonald-Miller, NessCampbell, Venture.  Silver Sponsors:  Atkinson Construction, Facility Services NW and South Sound Industrial & Hand Therapy.
